This is probably the most looked at post on our web site, 24 times more often than any other post. I would like to update all you-all on how this is going, and give you a way to start helping your child NOW rather than waiting. Go to our free Ramsey Financial Peace access<\/a> page now, get your Ramsey Plus Membership for free now, then login to your RamseyPlus.com web page. Click on Library<\/strong>, then Courses<\/strong>. Look down until you find Smart Money, Smart Kids<\/a>. You must be logged into your RamseyPlus membership before this URL can work. This will give you a beginning at least.<\/p>\n We are working with professional educators who have volunteered to help us develop a free and freely available financial literacy curriculum for use with pre-school, elementary, and high school children. We did not receive funding to buy curriculum, and frankly the curriculum we purchased in the past was not very helpful for the kids. I will post something when I know more. Frankly, there are only a couple volunteers so far and its slow going.\u00a0 This needs to be made to work for kids, not be an adult program cut into 15 minute videos with “discussions” in-between.<\/p>\n And I have an idea. When I was involved in creating and teaching management curriculum at Bethel College years ago we had a saying: re-invent past successes.<\/p>\n Life, Slides & Ladders, Candy Land, Hungry Hungry Hippo, Mouse Trap…\u00a0 What do those have in common? They have been bought and played by multiple generations and the kids, parents, and grandparents love them. Generations of kids play those and love it. Adults love to play those with their grandkids.<\/p>\n That is success. We need to re-invent that so kids can have fun learning the truth about money.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span> If it holds a kids attention for play, it can hold a kids attention for learning!<\/p>\n The best approach for this new child-youth program must be a format that grabs and holds their attention: a game they readily understand and want to play. I saw one video of a mother actually doing this with her kids, where they have a certain amount of paycheck and choose certain expenses, using realistic costs so they begin to grasp how they can earn money, and the affect of the possible choices they can make. Debts take money away each time. Credit Cards give a fast boost one turn, then the payments take away from the paycheck. Taxes, food, rent or mortgage, transportation (public or car) expenses, unexpected expenses, opportunity to invest to get better income (education or trade school), and so forth.<\/p>\n Or maybe you have a better idea?<\/p>\n Those willing to help should contact me at jdnash@alt-fw.org.<\/p>\n Adult Life Training, Inc. will offer their Fall 2018 Winning in Money and Life group starting Tuesday October 2, 2018 7:00pm to 9:00pm.<\/p>\n We have coordinated Financial Peace University groups for several years now, so we know the emotions people experience as they go through each lesson. Before our eyes, group members have gone from overwhelmed and frustrated to confident and equipped.<\/p>\n Now we have a new tool to help teens as they enter their adult lives:\u00a0 Financial Peace University to teach teens how to manage money before they rack up student loans and credit card debt.\u00a0Now we can also help teens\u2014and their families\u2014while empowering them with the street-smarts they need for a debt\u2011free future.<\/p>\n
