Adult Life Training needs funding in the following areas. Adult Life Training, Inc. is a recognized tax exempt IRC Section 501(c)(3) Public Charity. All cash donations to Adult Life Training, Inc. are tax deductible under IRC Section 170. http://alt-fw.org/tax-info/determination-letter-short.pdf. Our mailing address is Adult Life Training, Inc., c/o Abundant Life, 3301 E Coliseum Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. There is also a PayPal button on each page — we loose 3% + 30 cents of each PayPal donation to PayPal fees.
The best method of donating is to mail us a check, followed by donating through our PayPal link at the top of every page. Checks cost us nothing to deposit, and PayPal charges us a very nominal discounted fee so we receive *most* of what is donated, provided it is at least $2.00. We also have a presence on Go Fund Us and PayPal Giving Fund.
Short Term (Immediate)
$1,556 for COVID accommodations to our Employment Training Program work environment is needed immediately. The Indiana “mask mandate” is scheduled to end soon, however some accommodation, especially in the area of adequate room ventilation, will likely persist.
The SCSEP Manager has informed us that they anticipate placing Senior Aides at host agencies soon. To re-start the Employment Training Program we must modify the training center so each person has a barrier between them and all other persons. The most cost effective method we can implement is an acrylic (Plexiglas) panel separating each workstation. The panels are made locally and measure one fourth inch thickness by four feet wide by eight feet high, with rounded corners and smoothed edges for safety.
There are seven (7) workstations in the Bridge Room and placing one Plexiglas panel between each of them will require six (6) panels. Three bids for panels were obtained (Home Depot $219ea, Lowes $224ea, and Deluxe Glass $250ea). Home Depot and Lowes will not grind the sharp edges of each panel or round the corners and charge around $117 for delivery. Lowes and Home Depot are chain stores and their product is likely not made locally. Deluxe Glass’s bid is complete – rounded corners, sharp edges all finished nicely, and free delivery. Six (6) such panels at $250 each is $1,500.
In any case some form of holder is needed on the floor, and I can fabricate a suitable and solid holder from 4″ x 4″ dimensioned wood stock. Eight (8) foot 4×4 pine stock is $13.96 at Home Depot and Lowes. Big C Lumber can also provide material at $13.82 however they do not have stock at this time. Four (4) pieces of 4x4x8 will be needed to make seven (7) mounts at a cost of $55.84.
Long Term (annual)
Most needed are volunteers to teach FPU Financial Literacy classes. To qualify to teach FPU a person must first complete the FPU class and be living the Baby Steps: have a starter emergency fund, budget and have your budget meeting with your spouse (or accountability partner) every month, get (or diligently working to get) your family completely out of all debt – including student loans, credit cards, and car loans, and then building up your emergency fund to support you for three to six months, investing for your retirement, your kids post secondary education, and wisely transferring risk by buying the right insurance coverage(s), and finally living and giving like no one else.
3Rivers Federal Credit Union Foundation has granted the needed $2,500 cash to buy the FPU Site License for year 2021. This license allows us to provide full FPU memberships for free to an unlimited number of community members and increased our registration for class over 300% last year.
Third most needed is donations of cash to cover an advertising outreach this year. I have an innovative approach that will actually be seen continuously by at least one member of almost every family in Fort Wayne for (on average) between 20-120 minutes each week. Based upon a bid from last year, I estimate that it will cost us around $12,000 to get this visibility for one year. The ad will direct people to a landing page we can easily maintain and use to include our FPU and Employment classes, and similar resources available through other local community agencies with which we cooperate.
Fourth most needed is donations of cash to cover equipment maintenance, paper, toner and other office operations.
While we can also use other resources, such as volunteers and supplies, cash funding is needed for the following:
Business English Literacy
3Rivers Federal Credit Union Foundation has provided the initial funding to buy key business publications relevant to employment, specifically high level business publications such as The Wall Street Journal ($270/year), The Economist ($189), and Fortune Magazine ($180). These improve our patron’s conversations both through expanding their vocabulary and knowledge of current events, and through learning to communicate in formal register as is expected in business. Subscriptions to the local papers could also benefit but we are needing material that will teach adult / business level reading, and of necessity local papers are normally designed for the 4th grade reading level. Please write on your check “Business Literacy Training”. Donations of read but still readable current (within a few months of today) business level periodicals is also helpful.
3Rivers Federal Credit Union Foundation has provided the initial funding to buy Coffee supplies, which are available daily in the lab for those who visit. Coffee, creamer, milk, sugar, honey, and plasticware for stirring are used up daily and must be replaced. Consumables cost about $9 per two weeks. If you would like to help with any of these items, please use the PayPal button at top of this page or mail your check or money order to Adult Life Training, Inc., c/o ALC, 3301 Coliseum Blvd, RM 136, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Please write on your check “Coffee Fund”. Please we can only use factory sealed containers of these supplies.
Financial Peace University Scholarships
Close to 80% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck – they can not afford to miss one paycheck without having a financial crisis. This is true of well paid families as well as families living in poverty – sound financial health is more a problem of thinking than opportunity: even good people miss opportunities, or ruin them, because of destructive personal choices. Part of our training program is teaching people to take personal responsibility for their own financial well being and showing them how, even on low income.
3Rivers Federal Credit Union Foundation has granted the needed $2,500 cash to buy the FPU Site License for year 2021. This license allows us to provide full FPU memberships for free to an unlimited number of community members
The ability to buy a Financial Peace University site license was the deciding factor in improving effectiveness of our financial literacy community training. The site license allowed us to serve everyone for free. Even in a year where we were forbidden to meet for classes in-person, by using Zoom our average class size increased from 4 to 14 registrants and 4-5 people completed training in each class vs 1-2 in past years. Those who registered can continue to use the training on demand for one year even if they did not attend class.
THANK-YOU 3Rivers! You are here for us: here for good!
First Paid Staff
If we are going to expand we need part time people to manage the office and prepare grant proposals. Payroll expense with all the government charges is about twice what the person is actually paid. If you want to help mail your check or money order to Adult Life Training, Inc., c/o ALC, 3301 Coliseum Blvd, RM 136, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Please write on your check “First Paid Staff”.
