Staff Notes

Posted on March 28, 2011March 28, 2011 by John Nash

Operation Immersion has been scheduled for April 19–21, 2011 at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, Indiana.  ATR Provider Staff will experience life as a soldier and gain a better understanding of Military Culture and the challenges that military personnel face regarding substance abuse. Itennariary and packing list are provided in the attached .pdf file. We will be closed during this period to allow our staff to participate.

The September 2010 Webinar on TIP 50 can be accessed at: http://www.sprc.org/traininginstitute/disc_series/disc_22.asp. We want to review the video on Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment. To view the DVD click on the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n2QZlheuzc

A moderator and three panel members discuss ways to manage and address suicidal thoughts and behaviors among individuals with substance abuse issues. Actors portray case scenarios that the panelists discuss. Although the video is designed for VA settings, the content is applicable to all settings.

We have the date for the the Annual IN ARMS conference.  This year it will be held at the Government Center at no cost to participants!  So SAVE THE DATE Sept 27-28, 2011!

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
Saturday, April 30, 2011  |  10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local Time

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and its community partners will hold the second National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day at sites throughout the United States. This will be an opportunity for the public to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Prescription drugs are being misused and abused at alarming rates in the United States—more Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens, and heroin combined, according to the 2009 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.

The service is free and anonymous—no questions asked.

InATR management has evaluated the current enrollment numbers and it has been determined that the number of clients enrolled each week by the RC’s will be increased at this time.  Effective Monday, April 4, 2011, the enrollment per week will be increased to 2.5 intake per week at each RC agency. We are sure the 2 people will be happy, but don’t know how that 1/2 person will feel.
