Blessed & Blessed Again

Posted on February 3, 2016February 6, 2016 by John Nash

DSCN3563The Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University curriculum came in quickly and we are working out exactly HOW we are going to facilitate it for our participants. I am concerned that people may *say* they will complete the 10 week curriculum but only come once, and each student costs Adult Life Training, Inc. $102. We are trying to figure a way to guarantee those who start the curriculum really will complete the curriculum. They are mostly too poor for an approach such as paying all or part of the cost up front and having it refunded to them once they have successfully completed. “Contracts” are mostly meaningless because this population is conditioned to just agree to anything when seeking aide or swag, with no actual expectation of fulfilling that promise. So we are 90% of the way there and just need to figure how to handle individual engagement. As a bonus if we could recover the per student cost then the program would be sustainable. We are under budget by $10 on this Financial Literacy project.

We also completed Phase 1 (Bridge Room Computers) of the LAB upgrade project. We budgeted $5,000 total for the computer upgrade project and so far have about $1,300 left for phase 2, the office computers. We are looking into placing Macs instead of PCs in the offices, and have a bid on eBay right now to see if that is going to happen or if God wants it done another way. The new lab computers look nice, with 3.5GHz six-core AMD processors, 8G of RAM, and 250Gig SSDs. The old HP printer is now louder than all the computers running together.

DSCN3562Finally we got a totally unanticipated blessing in the early delivery of our 10.1″ Android tablets. We are planning to hold classes in using tablets with the student purchasing their tablet for $120. This will provide a modest profit to sustain operations and replace the tablets with more tablets. We are currently about $300 under budget on this project. If anyone would like one of these tablets to help fund the work (they sell for $120 on eBay with ad ware, nag ware, and mal ware built in, and these are clean, or should be) then see me with your money. Quantities are limited. As Is sale. Mostly. The last two batches that we bought got rave reviews — works great and cheap.
