Adult Life Training provides Life Skills training, that is we teach people who have never had a job, often from families which have never had a working adult, how to get and keep a real, un-subsidized, paying, job. We have done this since 2003, 13 years now.
Part of our curriculum is Computer Job Skills, and also Hard Job Skills (reading, writing, locating information), and through mentoring Soft Job Skills (why solving workplace problems by punching your fellow employees is a bad idea). This January we were able to add Financial Literacy Skills due to a generous grant from 3 Rivers Federal Credit Union Foundation.
This new training has been very well received, and a few local organizations have received from us a Membership Kit from this grant (and we still have a few left for local government or public charity organizations who would like to teach financial literacy to their clients) so that they can independently provide this same training to their own clients at their own facilities. And it is working: people are starting to take control / responsibility for their financial matters instead of always expecting someone else to take care of them. The people we help are not usually “bad” people, they just never had anyone show them how to do these things.
Today I have exciting news: we have received another grant to help our community! We will soon receive some Passion Planners through the PassionPlanner.com Get One, Give One philanthropy program, so we will be adding Time Management Skills to the curriculum! If you use a planner, or more if you have not been using a planner, we highly recommend that you go to http://www.passionplanner.com/ and purchase one of these unique, goal oriented, personal time management tools! They even have a very attractive Limited Edition in Paradise Blue!
Passion Planners are unique in that they configure themselves to you! They were designed by a grad student to help her overcome her own “Analysis paralysis”: that feeling of post-grad depression: she decided “to make a tool that helped people clearly define their personal goals and dreams and put them at the forefront of their attention”. Her “Passion Planner helps people break down their long and short term goals into more actionable steps and gives them a place to incorporate these steps into their daily lives through a format as simple as asking ‘Is what I am going to do today going to get me closer to my goals?’ “.
Passion Planner helps you to express your Dreams and turn them into actionable Goals, with a time line that you define. Through better understanding your own desires you can move forward through the fog of uncertainty to attain those things that really do matter to you.
You can download a free, non-sharable, sample from their web site and try it out, or dive right in and order a Passion Planner in the size and format you love the best. Passion Planner: “a tool that encourages you not only to start thinking about your goals, but makes taking action towards them a part of your daily life!”
I look forward to our Passion Planners arrival, and I trust you will too! I encourage you to check the Passion Planner web site at http://www.passionplanner.com/ to browse the planners, or click the Download menu item to get a sample that you can try downloaded immediately to your computer or other device. And when you buy one, please fill me in at the Referral Box!
