Program Update & Status

Posted on October 27, 2016November 18, 2016 by John Nash

DSCN3561The Senior Aides finished their 6-month curriculum September 17, and we have been waiting for the next group to be formed. In the mean time, we have two Ramsey Financial Peace classes going and one Senior Computer class, and the lab has been opened to the public daily Tues-Fri 9:00AM to 4:00PM where people can come in out of the weather, grab a cup o’ joe, and settle in to do some serious email or Internet browsing.

As the founder, and main protagonist, I rarely have had any time to tend my own family maintenance, such as lawn care, upkeep, and generally kicking-back to relax. During this two month down time I have been able to undertake general contractor responsibilities for repairs to my home after a five (5) foot diameter tree in the bank-owned foreclosed property next to my own fell, smashing some of their buildings, their fence, my yard, my deck, my roof, and part of my kitchen. Five foot diameter trees over 100 foot tall can do a lot of damage when they fall.

Long view – it was a big tree
Yeaaapp. Hit the roof from a way back thar
Tree made quite the mess

Tree ‘ol John is fixin’ up after.

So the deck is fixed but we still need volunteers to move some donated river rock to my flower beds and deck landing. The roof is fixed. The kitchen is (almost) fixed – just some cracks and paint left to finish. And my garage is getting sorted out in hopes of letting both my wife and myself park inside this winter.

Also, my family plans to have a special “yard grab” (vs. ‘sale’) where our useful but un-needed (by us) stuff will be placed out on tables for the community’s poor to take what they can use. Already I have one small and one large metal cabinet ready to go to the first one who comes to get them. THe large one needs some cleaning but held our old clothes for years. Rod for hangers is built in.

Just come if you want them, call my office 260.432.0014 and let Jodie get your phone # to me for a call back, or just email me jdnash@alt-fw.org.
